Greetings from the Central Part of Town art department!

I wanted to share some of the pictures from a fashion photography series that I am working on. This selection of hats was collected over 4 years of selling and trading pins in the rock and roll and and "Phan-art" sub-culture.   The hats range from hand made and upstart, to designer imported. They all have one thing in common; the folks who wore them love pins. Take a look and I hope you enjoy!

This is a hand made custom hat from a Milliner and Haberdasher in Asheville, North Carolina.

Gooren Brothers have been making hats for over 120 years and they continue to gain a very young audience.

The small start up named Grass Roots California was making limited-edition hats for independent artists and brands in 2009. I helped design and pitch work to groups for this firm in the past, and now they are a ubiquitous site on musicians, pro athletes and at concerts across the country.

Hand painted hats are collected and traded at many events.

Coogi is a brand from Australia that has gained popularity in the Hip Hop community. This hat came from one of my favorite haggles with  an Afghan street vendor at a D.C. flea market.
